Here we showcase projects run throughout the year through the Frances Baard Tourism Department.
TOURISM SCHOOLS’ BUSINESS PLAN COMPETITION
1. PROJECT BACKGROUND
The project was initiated with the focus to capacitate learners in the tourism field by staging a competition whereby learners are afforded the opportunity to compile business plans on various tourism sectors. The program is targeted at Grade 10-12 learners in schools offering tourism as a subject.
2. PROJECT PURPOSE:

- To afford all 23 schools in FBDM region offering tourism as a subject to participate in the

3. SCHOOLS’ PARTICIPATION
A total of 17 (seventeen) schools participated in the competition during the 2013/14 financial year
3.1 PREPARATORY WORKSHOPS
Frances Baard District Municipality organize and facilitate annual preparatory workshops to introduce the subject “business plan writing” to tourism educators for teaching purposes in the classrooms.
3.2 PRESENTATION SESSIONS
The learners are afforded an opportunity to present their business plans presentation sessions in a power point presentation format to an adjudication panel for assessment and scoring.
3.3 THE AWARD CEREMONY
The adjudication panel will select the winners and runners-up based on the scoring from the business plan submitted and presented. A banquet style award ceremony is hosted to give recognition to the winners of the competition.
4. BENEFITS TO PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS
The Development Incentive Grant are funds budgeted to the value of R5000.00 (five thousand rand) for each participating school to procure items / furniture for use in tourism
classrooms (media centres). The Sector winners receive an amount to the value of R2 500.00 (two thousand five hundred rand) and the overall winner an amount to the value of R5000.00 (five thousand rand) for the procurement of items and furniture for use in the tourism classroom.
FBDM has received a sponsorship to the value of R15 000.00 (fifteen thousand rand) together with personal incentive prizes for the winning teams from Standard Bank.
